What is Frenectomy? – Frenectomy is the surgical removal of a frenulum either by scissors or laser
Untreated Ties - by Holly Puckering
A baby organizes their whole neurological and emotional state through suckling. If the suckling is not right, they are not optimizing their brain, physical, gut/digestion or emotional development to their full potential.
So, the consequences of an untreated tie are far reaching, into many areas of the child’s well being and development.
Yes, certainly, you can live with a tongue tie. Some people are able to compensate for their structural abnormality to achieve what appears to be, to the untrained eye, normal speech and swallowing skills as an adult.
However, the other ‘silent’ difficulties associated with an untreated tie are, again, far reaching – nobody ever gets away completely ‘un-affected’. Please see the “Consequences of Untreated Ties in Infants, Children and Adults” link for further details.

FEEDING TIPS & LINKS
From Norma Woolf Ritter IBCLC:
Here is some information about getting a nice deep latch that you may find helpful. (It was originally written for a boy baby, so feel free to change the pronouns )
Start by leaning back when you nurse. Maybe use a recliner, or put your feet up on a stool, or lean back into the bed pillows? Take off your top and bra, and strip baby down to a diaper.
Place baby face down vertically on your tummy (his feet pointing towards yours.) His head should be between your breasts, with his nose level to your nipples.
Now watch - you will see him bob his head, and then make a dive for one of your breasts! He is going to latch on all by himself! You can help by gently holding his body so it does not roll off yours.
Babies get a deeper latch when they approach the breast chin-first. This is why laid back nursing works so well - baby's head is able to tilt backwards.
